Description

Position Summary:

Under supervision of the Engineering and Maintenance Manager provides and implements technical solutions for design, upgrade and optimization of the control and protection systems that are controlling Laboratory Test operations, Laboratory Power Generation and Distribution, Operational Safety and Annunciation systems, at the plant facilities of KEMA Laboratories, Chalfont, Pennsylvania, USA.

The person in this position is responsible for the control and automation systems of High Power Laboratory and High Voltage Laboratory. An individual in this position initiates and participates in projects and development activities of the physical Laboratory installation, renovations and modifications.

The person in this position is furthermore responsible for assuring the work is performed in a safe and efficient manner, and in accordance with KEMA-CESI and industry standards.

 

Position Description:

• Maintain, and execute actions, to ensure reliable operation of the existing laboratory’s discrete and automated parts of control systems and applications

• Interface with Test Operations, Generator Operations and Maintenance in support and identification of activities required to improve and upgrade laboratory control systems

• Initiate and participate in preventive and corrective actions in operation and maintenance including equipment troubleshooting and root cause analysis

• Actively lead and assist in electrical and electro-mechanical design, construction and installation of automation, control, safety and protection systems, with implementation of modern HMI’s in Laboratory facilities, as required to improve Test Operations and to optimize operational process

• Consistently demonstrate applied electrical engineering and industrial technical experience in managing of assigned tasks and projects

• Administer engineering documentation, maintain existing and create new control and protection electrical and electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, layout and general arrangement drawings, verify and maintain up-to-date schematics and diagrams of the Laboratory systems

• Deliver design, engineering and maintenance of HMI software (Siemens SCADA system SIMATIC WinCC) interfaced with the Laboratory’s control and protection systems

• Deliver design, engineering and maintenance of software and hardware for PLC process controllers (Siemens SIMATIC Step 7) with facility expansion and improvement of electrical power and control systems

• Assist the Engineering and Maintenance Manager in development of new and improved engineering processes, training curriculum, equipment and test technologies

• Other duties as assigned by the Engineering and Maintenance Manager

 

Qualifications:

Required:

• Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical, Power Electronics or Controls Engineering

• Basic knowledge of AC and DC power and control circuits and circuit components

• Understanding of basic principles of electrical control and protection systems used in operation of electrical machines and secondary apparatus, including knowledge of power electronics

• Minimum of 5 years of practical experience with design, operations and maintenance in industrial, large scale electro-mechanical systems, such as power plants, oil refineries, steel or paper mills, etc.

• Knowledge and Experience in industrial automation – distributed PLC’s, SCADA systems

• Knowledge and experience of virtual architecture of SCADA/HMI Systems

• Demonstrated oral & written communications skills

• Ability to work independently and in a team environment

• Demonstrated interpersonal communications skills

• US citizenship

 

Desired:

• Experience in high voltage and high power electro-mechanical equipment testing and commissioning

• Working knowledge of electrical and electronic instrumentation, electrical signal detection, sensors and electrical measurements

• Training, knowledge and practical experience with Siemens S7 PLC hardware and HMI WinCC applications

• Moderate proficiency with electrical engineering drafting methods

• Working knowledge of applicable IEEE, IEC and UL standards

 

Work Environment:

This position requires an individual who can adapt to changing situations based on the quantity of work, the demands of internal and external customers and management. The position requires an individual who can devote required amount of time to successfully accomplish the short- and long-term goals of the organization.

The position is exempt from overtime, however evening work and weekend work occasionally is to be expected.
